A confession: I really enjoyed putting this together for hours! Hours! I was so engrossed with the on-line detective work and in the reshaping of some of the images to follow my design plan. Unless I am otherwise advised by the authors, AMAZON is the default link for most of these books. I am just delighted to know that the community has published so many in the past three years. I hope this fact encourages others to keep plugging on their works-in-progress. I would like to exhibit these publications in five-year increments beginning with 2005. I am already hearing of new books coming out as far as 2010. The Filipino-American literary community is still small but growing. They are very special people, with many important narratives to share with the nation. What a parade of colors on this page! I really hope that you don't leave this page without ordering a book or two. Books make great gifts. Gift giving brings a lot of good karma. How's that? Also, you don't necessarily have to give them to a Filipino-American friend. Give a book to anyone who loves to explore new horizons. It's never too late to learn about a new culture, especially one that is increasingly making its mark in the U.S. On a purely empirical note, many of these books are second or third publications already, from a wide array of publishers too. When I edited The Literary Review's Filipino issue almost ten years ago, I was complaining about the dearth of publication among Filipino Americans. Well, someone was listening!!! And there are multiple publications here by the same authors in three years. I want to know what they put in their coffee. But I want to know what you are using that Amazon gift card for. Gift giving brings . . . yes! And on a political note, I'm glad that none of these book covers looked exoticized. The power of the author really shows in how he influences the look of his book. If anything I know about my colleagues, they know how to exert their power. No one will be telling them to put a coconut tree on their covers anytime soon. So buy a book today and see the power in their words as well!
It means so much to me that you have visited. Live in the most authentic way possible. Maraming Salamat. Good luck on your voyage. Homepage |
